A 30-day automated follow-up sequence across SMS and email that contacts every new lead until they book or opt out — so you never lose a lead to slow follow-up again.
Leads don't go cold because they're not interested. They go cold because nobody followed up enough times, fast enough, for long enough.
Same leads. Same ad spend. Same intake form. The only variable that changes is whether someone — or something — keeps showing up until the lead is ready.
Get these in place before you build anything. Missing any one of these will stall the build or, worse, get your number blocked mid-sequence.
If your business texts leads in the United States and your number is not A2P 10DLC registered, carriers will throttle or block your messages outright — often silently, so it looks like the sequence is working when it isn't. Register before you send a single test message. Registration typically takes 1–5 business days, so start this first.
Ten touchpoints, alternating SMS and email, spread across 30 days. Fast at the start when urgency is highest, spacing out as the lead cools, closing the loop cleanly at the end. Full copy for every touchpoint follows in Section 05.
Below is every message, fully written, for three industries: Home Services (HVAC / plumbing / roofing), Property Management (owner-client leads), and Professional Services (a law firm example — the same structure applies to accounting and consulting). Swap in your own business details and this is ready to load into your workflow today.
Every message below uses merge fields in double curly braces — {{first_name}}, {{owner_first_name}}, {{business_name}}, {{business_phone}}, {{service_type}}, and {{property_address}} where relevant. These map directly to GoHighLevel or n8n contact fields. Replace them with your actual field names when you build, or leave them as-is if your field names already match.
Restrict SMS sends to 8:00am–8:00pm in the lead's local time zone. This is both a TCPA best practice and simple good manners — a 2:00am text about an HVAC repair does more damage than good, no matter how good the copy is. In GHL, set this under the workflow's "Business Hours" setting per SMS action.
Follow this exactly, in order. Each Wait step's duration is calculated relative to the step immediately before it, not relative to Day 0 — that distinction matters and is called out at every step.
Before turning this workflow on for real leads, run a test contact through it (see Section 09, item 1). Set every Wait step to a shortened test duration (minutes instead of days), confirm each message sends with correctly populated merge fields, then reset the Wait steps to their real durations before publishing.
Each of these is its own small workflow that watches for a specific event and, when it fires, pulls the contact out of the sequence immediately — no matter where they are in the 30 days.
These four branch workflows should also gate entry, not just exit. Add a filter/condition on the main sequence's trigger step (Step 1) that checks "Do Not Contact (DNC) tag is NOT present" before the first SMS ever sends. This is what stops a DNC-tagged contact from being enrolled at all — see Verification Checklist item 8 in Section 09.
For teams that want full control outside of GHL, or need this to plug into an existing tech stack. Same 10-touchpoint cadence, same exit logic, built as an n8n pipeline.
Set the Twilio and Brevo nodes to retry on failure (n8n's built-in "Retry On Fail" setting, 2–3 attempts with a short backoff) so a temporary API hiccup doesn't silently kill a touchpoint. Log every send attempt — success or failure — to your database so nothing fails silently.
Work through every item with a real test contact before this touches a live lead.
This guide gets you a working system in 90–120 minutes if everything goes right on the first try. It usually doesn't. Wait-step math gets miscalculated, merge fields break, A2P registration stalls, and copy that reads great in a template feels generic once it has your business's name on it.
We build it once, correctly, tuned to how you actually talk to customers:
A fraction of the time this guide requires to DIY — and it's tuned to your business instead of a generic template.
This is a compounding system — the value shows up as more leads pass through the full 8-touch cadence, not immediately after launch.
One-time purchase, importable straight into your GoHighLevel account. Lead Follow-Up Sequence is included in both tiers.
